Year 2 Box 1

This week's CSA box!

We are excited to announce a great first box for our CSA members! While the field is recovering from all the rains, and we’re catching up in our planting schedule, we’ve gone ahead and started our CSA. And heres what we’ve got:

1 Bunch of Sorrel: Tangy, citrusy, delicious. A close friend of cream, potatoes, and fish. Look for some great french recipes.

1 Bunch of Baby Carrots: Napolo: our fall sown carrots. We picked these this week in hopes that we’ll have some larger ones in a couple of weeks.

1 Bunch of Radishes: Most CSA members got french breakfast

1 Bunch of Braising greens: Beet greens (with some baby beets) were in most boxes. But the Saturday folks received Red Russian Kale.

5-6 baby lettuce heads: Varieties include Skyphos Red Butterhead, Royal Oak, Pannise, and Bibb.

1 Bunch of Scallions, grown from red onion sets.

Enjoy, post recipes, and tell us what you think!

We made some Sorrel Mushroom Risotto last night that was delish! Recipe as follows for 3-4 servings:

1 cup of cooked Risotto (cooked in Chicken broth
    2 Tbls olive oil
    2 cloves of garlic minced
    1 small onion diced
1/2 package of mushrooms (shitake in our case)
    1/3 cup of minced sorrel
1/4 cup of Italian cheeses (parm and mozzarella)
    dash of red pepper flakes
    salt and pepper to taste

While the Risotto is cooking, saute onions, red pepper flakes and garlic in olive oil. Add mushrooms after a few minutes and turn heat to medium-low. A few minutes before the Risotto is finished add the sorrel and turn heat up to medium. Cover for a few minutes stirring occasionally. Once Risotto is cooked add to mushroom/sorrel mixture. Add Italian cheeses (we used primarily parm, but added some mozzarella as well) and cover mixing every few minutes. Once cheese is completely melted salt and pepper to taste and then enjoy!
